The hairdressing industry has a lot to answer for when it comes to the environment. It uses a lot of chemicals for colouring and styling hair as well as a huge amount of plastic packaging and aerosols. The chemicals often used in colouring and styling hair are not only bad for the environment but we know that many people experience skin sensitivity with such products and even the manufacturers will often advise not to use them frequently.
We are part of a small but growing movement within the industry that is saying no to the use of such chemicals in hairdressing. Finding alternatives is not easy but as we have shown, it is possible and customers both expect to see us trying to be as eco-friendly as possible and appreciate our efforts to get there. We’re not perfect but we are constantly trying to improve.
We feel that by partnering with Australian premium hair products supplier, Kevin Murphy, which specialises in eco-friendly and skin and hair-friendly products then we have the best chance of staying ahead of the curve in this area. We are particularly pleased with Kevin Murphy’s use of Ocean Waste Plastic in the production of their hair product packaging. Let’s hope that other salons will follow.
We are very proud to say that we are the first-ever @greensaloncollective accredited salon in Southsea!
In order to receive this accreditation, we had to prove that we are being as eco-friendly as possible from recycling hair, metals, chemicals and plastic through to our energy-efficient lights so that we can proudly say that we are an eco-friendly salon.
“Achieving Green Salon Collective accreditation demonstrates to clients, staff and the wider industry that your business goes above and beyond when it comes to looking after people and planet.”
